My entire life is my music—and all the trappings that come with it. Sex, booze, and rock nroll is all I ever wanted. Touring the world as the lead singer of Balefire, I have it all. Until on hiatus, I meet the girl next door.

Ashleigh Baker is nothing like the groupies and celebrities who usually have all my attention. In her cute floppy hat with her knees stained with dirt, she spends her days creating a flowering show piece from her rented yard. Shes the most gorgeous woman Ive ever met, and she acts like she doesnt want a damn thing to do with me. But from the moment I laid eyes on her, shes all I can think about.

Ashleigh

Growing up the only child of an Air Force Colonel, all I wanted was to stay in one place for more than a minute. When I score a pretty little house with a long-term lease, I just want to grow my flowers and my freelancing gig as a music reviewer. Then a loud Harley wakes me from a sound sleep and I discover my neighbor is Blu Connolly. Yeah, that Blu Connolly, lead singer for my favorite band Balefire. With his killer good looks and panty-melting voice, hes a walking temptation to sin. Though I do my best to avoid him, it seems Blu has other ideas. Hes on a mission to wear me down, let him in, but what happens when he stops wanting to sing for me?

My Review

Blu is every woman’s wet dream. He’s the Rock God bad boy that they all wish to tame. When he comes home after a tour and stays with his mother, the girl next door is soon in his sights. Ashleigh Baker is nothing like the other women who throw themselves at him. She is stubborn and definitely determined not to fall for his charm, which only makes his determination to win her over that much stronger.

Ashleigh is a substitute teacher who writes reviews on live gigs in her spare time. She loves music, and Balefire is her favourite band. Everyone loves Blu Connelly and she is not immune, she has had the biggest crush on him for as long as she can remember. So when she finds out that she’s living next door to his much loved mother, her life flips on it’s head. She’s determined not to be another notch in his bedpost though, and against her heart’s wishes, she is more than determined not to become just another groupie to him. The problem is, Blu is persistent, and Ashleigh doesn’t know how much longer she’ll be able to hold out. Are they destined to crash and burn? Or is this time different?

Contemporary romance is not generally my cup of tea, but when I read the synopsis for this book, something about it just made me sign up for the tour, and I’m really glad that I did. I think I was looking for something light, fluffy and easy to read and this was all of those things, plus enjoyable to boot.

This story is probably very cliched in the general equation that it followed, but I had no issue with that whatsoever. I could have told you straight up exactly how this story was going to play out, and it didn’t take away from the enjoyment one little bit. Sometimes you need something that is predictable, and this is just what the doctor ordered for me.

For the most part I really enjoyed the characters. Ashleigh was a great female lead, though I found myself getting a bit annoyed with her constantly assuming how her relationship with Blu would turn out. On the other hand though, I completely understand why she was thinking these things as well. What well balanced person wouldn’t? The man of her dreams who she’s had a crush on forever takes a sudden interest in her, he has a bad reputation, so of course she’s going to try and protect herself from heartbreak. I just felt like she wasn’t giving Blu much of a chance with the way that she was thinking, and she wasn’t thinking about how that would affect him either. Blu was determined to get into Ashleigh’s good graces and I really enjoyed his character as well. I loved his persistence near the ending of the story and I really loved how even though Ashleigh was being pretty unfair to him, he was still dead set on making her see that things would be different to what she thought. I really enjoyed the character of Blu’s mother, and I really wish that we got to see her one more time at the end of the book when things worked out how they did. I was really looking forward to seeing her reaction, but that unfortunately didn’t happen.

I feel like the story could have been fleshed out a bit more, but this was a story that was incredibly character driven so the plot really did work in it’s favour. So if you’re after a light, easy to read, enjoyable book that has a bit of fluff to it, and like a heavily character driven story, pick this one up, you won’t be disappointed. I would happily pick up another book by this author as their narration had a wonderful flow and very lyrical feel to is which made it a breeze to read. I just had to know what was going to happen next.
